Mike Doughty - “Fort Hood”

This tracks off Doughty’s most recent album, Golden Delicious, which is supposed to be great. I’m still just starting to listen to it. I like the reference to “Age of Aquarius” for the chorus.
Doughty’s been one of my favorite songwriters for almost 7 years now, ever since I heard Skittish. A friend had bought the cd directly from him, the former lead singer of Soul Coughing. He had burned it himself. Apparently, he had tried to get it published in 1996 before Soul Coughing broke up, but the label rejected it. So, once he got over heroin, he started driving across the country by himself playing solo shows and selling it himself. He’s done some of the best shows I’ve seen. Beginning as a slam poet, Doughty puts forth some of the most spot-on lyrics, harnesses one of the quickest wits, and throws down the most interactive shows I’ve ever seen. The banter is often side-splitting. But keep it between songs.
You should still believe in an endless world.
You should blast young jeezy with your friends in a parking lot.
I’m sure EP’s looking forward to the Young Jeezy post that’s sure to follow—or that I might just reblog from him.
